V.V Lightbody, the solo project of Chicago-based songstress Vivian McConnell (who also lends her talents to indie darlings Santah and Grandkids) unveiled a glitchy, dreamy video for new song “Gaze” today.
Written while living in a beach town in Spain, the ethereal song is a love letter of sorts to a long-distance lover.
“When I wrote the song I was really in love,” she said. “I just really wanted to write a perfect, short little love song.”
The video features Go-Pro footage of McConnell while she was on a family vacation. She enlisted the help of Chicago photojournalist Brittany Sowacke to edit the video.
“It’s very glitchy and repetitive,” McConnell said. “I want to capture the feeling of being underwater. The calm of escaping the noise of the chaotic outside world. I wanted it to be soothing, evoke the feeling of your body being rocked by the ocean’s waves.”
The song will appear on her debut LP “Bathing Peach,” which McConnell expects to be released in 2017.
